Please provide a short personal biography about yourself

My name is Jackson Meredith, I am 26 years old, and I live in Kempsey, NSW. In 2020 I opened my own small business, Macleay Locksmiths & Security. Since 2020 I have gone from working as a mobile locksmith to now having an established store front. I had my first look into the Locksmithing industry at the age of 15 when I started doing some odd jobs for the local locksmith, it was here that I began to consider locksmithing as a career. I have always enjoyed problem solving and working with my hands so when I was offered an apprenticeship I eagerly accepted.

What are some of the skills and abilities necessary for someone to succeed as a locksmith?

There are a lot of skills and abilities required to succeed as a locksmith, but above all the individual needs to have outstanding problem-solving skills, be mechanically minded and hold a high level of attention to detail. Precision is crucial in locksmithing and security to ensure that locks are installed, repaired, or rekeyed correctly. It is also essential that locksmiths have excellent customer service skills in order to build trust and rapport with clients. Being respectful, patient, and responsive to their needs is key.

What key issues do you think will affect the locksmith industry in the coming decade and how do you think these should be approached?

The key issue that the Locksmithing & security industry will face over the next decade is the evolution of technology. Technology is evolving and mechanical locks are slowly being replaced by electronic and smart lock systems. Locksmiths will need to stay updated on these new technologies, undergo training, and acquire the necessary skills to install, repair, and maintain electronic locks and security systems in order to stay up to date with the ever-changing industry.

I have a genuine passion for the Locksmithing and security industry, I possess a high level of technical skill and expertise in lock installation/repair, automotive locksmithing and security systems. I take it upon myself to stay updated with the latest industry trends, technologies, and techniques through ongoing education and training. I consider myself to be very adaptable in any situation, whether that be speaking with people or solving a technical problem It would be an honour be considered for Australia’s best young locksmith 2023.
